About Us
Gussy’s Pizza was foundered in North Canterbury, operating out of the back of a truck and popping up wherever there was an opportunity to make great pizza on beaches, roadsides, and local events.
As the business grew, it found its first permanent foothold in Christchurch at the legendary former Hide Nightclub, where the concept continued to develop. Today, Gussy’s Pizza is co-owned by Gus and Josh and operates from the Sydenham Underpass, serving regular weekly service alongside late-night events and pop-ups.
While we’ve grown over the years, we strive to stayed true to where it started, a small local business focused on making great pizza and being part of the Christchurch community.
Our Mission
At Gussy’s, our goal has never been to become a large commercial pizza chain.
Our ambition is simply to have a small number of local stores that make consistently great pizza at a fair price, supported by a team that genuinely enjoys coming to work.
We don’t aim to be a premium restaurant, and we don’t aim to compete with high volume fast-food chains. We believe there’s a place in the middle quality ingredients, true tested methods, fair prices and pizzas made with passion.
Success for us isn’t measured by having hundreds of stores. It’s measured by building a sustainable business, creating a workplace people enjoy being part of, and making pizza that our community wants to come back for week after week
Why Choose Us
We believe great pizza starts with doing the simple things well.
Dough made using a long fermentation process that we’ve refined over years. The result is a crust with great flavour, a satisfying chew, and one that reheats exceptionally well something our customers regularly tell us.
We serve one size, a 16-inch hand stretched pizza. To us, that’s what a large pizza should be. not a dominos or pizza hut Large size thats a joke…
Our pizzas are baked in a electric deck oven, producing the crisp base and balanced bake found in many classic New York style pizzerias.
We don’t try to overcomplicate our food. We use quality ingredients, source locally where practical, and let simple combinations speak for themselves. That approach means we won’t always be the cheapest option, but we believe the quality, consistency and value are worth it.
